Ironvale Siege
Ironvale Siege is the kind of strategy game that rewards planning two steps ahead. You manage a growing settlement, decide when to expand versus fortify, and send out expeditions that can backfire if you overreach. The economy is tight enough that every decision has weight.
Combat plays out in semi-real-time, so you set formations and trigger abilities rather than micromanaging every unit. We found the difficulty curve fair — losses taught us something instead of feeling random. The tech tree branches in meaningful ways, pushing you toward either turtling or aggressive raiding.
The only rough edge is a cluttered late-game interface when you're juggling many settlements. Once you learn the shortcuts it fades, but the first few hours can feel busy.
